Solaria – Dark Zebra Soundset
Dark Zebra Solaria is a cinematic wide-screen collection of 170 signature patches for U-He’s Dark Zebra synth. The patches are all created by Stephan Baer and released exclusively on Luftrum.
Dark, atmospheric, subtle, rhythmic and slightly distorted, these sounds are best suited to be used in TV, film drama and sci-fi.
Influences for the Dark Zebra soundset can be attributed to composers and artists such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Anthony Gonzales & Joseph Trapanese, Solar Fields, Cliff Martinez and Harry Gregson-Williams.
The soundset is perfect for any underscore situation that requires dark animated distant atmospheres, pulsing arpeggios, mangled bass lines and synth basses, dark keys, lush animated ambient pads, dramatic pulses and drum impacts, fx’s, experimental synths and sci-fi soundscapes.
Many patches offer added adaptability programmed into the modwheel and aftertouch is used for more expression, to make these sounds come alive. All sounds have X/Y assignments for further exploring and as always leaving a few dB headroom.
Solaria requires The Dark Zebra to load, which is custom-built version of Zebra 2 made on request by Hans Zimmer. The version is named ZebraHZ and contains presets and features not available in the normal Zebra 2 version such as Diva filters, extra MSEG’s, special resonators, polyphonic compressors, and some other features.
Hans Zimmer used ZebraHZ and the presets in the movies The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, hence the title: Dark Zebra. For further info, read our What is The Dark Zebra? topic in our FAQ.
All presets in a Dark Zebra soundset, will load and play in the normal Zebra 2 version and while some presets might be identical in both versions, those that are taking advantage of the features in ZebraHZ, will sound different in the normal Zebra 2 version.
The background image of the soundset cover is created by conceptual artist and illustrator Tarmo Juhola and licensed with full permission. All sounds in the demos below are from Solaria, except drums and sound effects.
