Evo Elysium is a collection of 100 presets for Padshop 2 containing melodic arpeggios to rich layered pads and dynamic, expressive synth keys, edgy basses and ambient sequences which all fuse together in this fresh ambient release – balanced with a hint of the 80s and influenced by artists like Tangerine Dream, The Orb, Tycho, Vangelis and Enya.
Padshop 2 is a synthesizer by Steinberg, containing two co-existing sound engines, a granular engine and a spectral oscillator and Evo Elysium is taking full advantage of both engines. The soundbank is created in coordination with Steinberg and is also officially available to purchase directly on the Steinberg website.
There’s a 15 minutes YouTube walkthrough below, it’s covering many of the presets included in Evo Elysium with no talk, just pure audio and preset demo delights.
Evo Elysium is 90MB and requires activation via the eLicenser which is the software to register Steinberg products. If you have an USB-eLicenser, you can use that instead. At order you will receive an activation code which you will need to enter into the eLicenser to register the soundbank before you can play the sounds. There’s a PDF guide included, describing how to install the set. Support for the eLicenser and Padshop 2 is done by Steinberg.
As always, all presets are leaving a few dB headroom. Modwheel, aftertouch and velocity are assigned and can be used for more expression. Cover art is created by space artist Vadim Sadovski and used with permission.
Evo Elysium was reviewed in German music magazine Beat 11/2020 and received 6/6. Matthias Sauer concludes “The sound quality is sublime and the presets are musically excellent for ambient and related styles…” – get a copy of the printed German magazine right here and there’s an English online version available here.
